When you first come for an intake appointment you are expressly given information outlying your rights as expressed by HIPAA and Article 42 CFR Part 2.
These rights protect you and your information while you are in treatment and are the law. You have the right for your information to be kept private unless you give permission otherwise while you are here. You have a right to seek access to your records, and revise access to your records as well.
In the case of an emergency HIPAA does allow us to coordinate care as needed in order to get you the care that you may need, keep you out of the harm of others or vice versa.
